Home Make-Over

I finally talked Robert into turning our study into Josh's room!!! The boys have bunk beds in one room and toys in another but the plan was to turn the playroom into Emma's room which will still happen but now Josh and Kolton get their own rooms too!! I was so excited until I started cleaning out the study closet! Our study is anything but neat and organized. Most days I look at it, sigh, and close the door. Most the stuff needs boxed up or thrown away.

I have been wanting to get started on the nursery but was making myself wait so the boys would keep their playroom as long as possible. Now I'm REALLY ready to get all 3 rooms done. Poor Robert, his honey-do list just got a lot longer.

Platinum Weddings and Reality

For the first time in I don't know how long, I am home after church BY MYSELF. Robert is playing in a golf tournament, the boys are at my mom's house, and I have a couple hours before going to Hannah's baby shower. For some reason I'm watching Platinum Weddings and all I can say is SERIOUSLY? Your wedding budget is unlimited but probably around $350,000.....I wonder how much the divorce will cost. I don't know what's more disturbing, the budget or the fact that the grooms on this show act as though they actually care about all the wedding plans!!!

Anyway, on to reality....yesterday was a busy day. Josh and I went to Justine's birthday party, he got his haircut and last night Robert and I took him to eat at IHOP and then to Firewheel to play around outside. Where was Kolton? He didn't want to go to the party and hates getting his haircut so he was with Robert and then to Nanny's because he didn't want to go to IHOP even though it was originally his idea!! I actually went into Carter's last night and didn't buy anything!! Josh and I did go to Kid 2 Kid after this haircut and I bought one of those strollers that holds the infant carrier for $30 (retail $60) and the crib skirt I registered for at a bargain price of $4 vs $12. The total cost for Emma's crib bedding...$44! I love bargains. Can you tell my budget for her nursery isn't $350,000??!!!

Mommy Time

Today as soon as Robert walked in the door, I walked out! I got a pedicure then was off to Target to get a birthday present for Justine, a baby shower gift for Hannah, and school supplies for Josh (early I know but Melissa motivated me). I came out with the 2 gifts, no school supplies and Emma's baby bedding! It was on clearance for $41.98...I couldn't pass that up and it was the last set left so I knew the chances of someone finding it for my shower were slim to none. (And yes Helen, I'll take a picture to post!)

I also booked Kolton's birthday party today. We are having his party September 13th since Emma is due (October 15th) so close to his actual birthday (October 4th). I figured if I waited to have his party on his birthday, I'd either go into labor at the party, be on bedrest, or just not feel like having a party!! Having it early also means Robert's parents can come as well as Cindy and Justine who otherwise couldn't make it. This year we'll be at Main Event in Plano for bowling, laser tag, arcade games, pizza and of course cake.

Missing Child

So today I went to the office and had a youth from church come babysit. Kolton went swimming with his friend Grant and then to Grant's grandma's house. When I went by there before taking the sitter home the boys were no where to be found. No big deal...Kolton didn't have his phone with him and hadn't checked his sugar in 4 hours. So I take the sitter home, go back to grandma's house and still no kids. I go driving around the neighborhood and get a call from Grant's mom who is on her way home. She's freaking out and we both determine our kids are in big trouble! As I'm driving by the school I'm trying to decide at what point I'm going to call the police because my diabetic son is missing!!! My phone rings and it's Grant's mom again...the kids are found. Guess where they were? In grandma's house the whole time! They had gone back inside and to the computer room and closed the door w/o her ever knowing it. The only reason they were discovered was because Grant came out to get snacks. The kids were "lost" for about 30-45 min by the way. Usually Nancy and I can find the boys within 5-10 minutes. 15 at the very most. I went from "when am I calling the police" to laughing in a matter of 30 seconds!!!

Other than that we've had a boring day. About to go pick up pizza for dinner, Robert is at band practice and I need to clean the house.

Baby Emma Update

Josh and I went for my 28 week check up today and this time I had only gained 3 lbs in 2 weeks! Guess I'll be back to Blue Bell after all! Dr. Brough said my BP was GREAT which is a first and told me to keep doing what I'm doing which is eating whatever I want and not exercising!!! I didn't tell him that though.

After the appointment I took Josh up to the newborn nursery and we saw 0 babies so off we went to the admitting nursery where we saw 2. Must have been a slow day in L&D. Next we were off to see the fish and there weren't many of those either.

Can I just say I am so glad I don't work at Presby Dallas anymore and have no chance of running into my old boss a.k.a. the devil....can I get an amen Helen?!!

Diabetes Check Up

Kolton had his regular 3 month check up today with his endocrinologist and he's doing fine. His A1C was 7.9% down from 8% 3 months ago. He's still on the high end of the normal range for diabetics. Once school starts and he's back on a regular eating schedule and I'm back to logging his numbers like I should be, I'm hoping to get his number back down to 7%. (The A1C tells us what his blood glucose has been over the past 3 months. 8% is an average blood glucose of 205. 7% 170 average blood glucose and 4.5 to 6% is the normal range for non-diabetics. Kolton hasn't been in the normal range since March of '07 which was only 3 months into insulin shots).

Tonight I took Josh to Bouncetown in Wylie for an hour of free bouncing compliments of the children's department at church. We'll be back at Bouncetown Saturday morning for Justine's birthday party. I can't believe she's already 3!!!!

Nothing else going on this week. Josh is finally done with swim lessons so our evenings have been free to hit the pool! He's such a fish.

Great Wolf Lodge

This weekend Robert and I took the boys to Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine. The kids had fun and Robert and I are tired!!! In case you haven't heard one of the zillion commericals for the place, the hotel has an indoor waterpark. I wasn't a huge fan of the indoor park because the smell of chlorine got to me but I LOVED the outdoor saltwater pool area. Josh's favorite thing was the arcade and Kolton liked everything. In addition to the arcade and pools, there was also a "Magic Quest" game all the kids in the hotel were playing....all I know about the game is the cost to play it and the magic wand you had to buy and the game covered all 8 floors of the hotel. Robert or Kolton would have to fill you in on the details. I'll post pictures later. I would recommend the place for a weekend during the summer when you can use the outdoor pool in addition to the indoor park. I think everyone we met was from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I couldn't see driving too far to visit the place. Of course we are used to going to Schlitterbahn every summer and nothing compares to that place!!! But all in all not too bad for a quick 30 minute drive to Grapevine!!

Are you Pregnant?

I actually had someone ask me today at church if I was pregnant!!! Really? Do you even have to ask?! I know I still have until October to go but I have gained 20 pounds already and am in full blown maternity gear!!!! And trust me, it wasn't the shirt I was wearing...you know how some regular shirts look like they may or may not be a maternity shirt? Well, when your shirt TIES in the BACK....you are preggo!!!!

Oh, and on a not so great note, our AC is in need of service. It ran all day yesterday and all day today just to keep the house at 77. Guess I'll be calling for service tomorrow. We go through this every summer which is the most frustrating part.

Marines

This is for those of us who were married, divorced and now married to a Marine!!!

Date Night

Last night Robert and I had date night and no Cindy we didn't go to Wal-Mart. Robert took me to On The Border for dinner, Target to register for the baby shower, and then out for ice cream. It was great!!! Robert actually wanted to go with me to Target to register. I was going to take Cindy with me thinking he wouldn't want to go. He likes the gun...said he feels like Brian with a radar gun.

Today Robert's brother, Mike, came to town to go play golf and I'm watching his two girls, Katherine who is 6 almost 7 and Jenna who is 3. At one point today I had 8 kids in my house b/c Kolton had 2 friends here and Josh had 1. I took 5 kids swimming and then sent the extra kid home so now I have peace and quiet with just my 4. It's so much easier when it's your own kids or nieces and nephews. Other people's kids get on my nerves after a while. Except Justine who is now Kolton's favorite "cousin". (He still doesn't get why we call Cindy "Aunt Cindy" when she's not really our aunt. He thinks we are step-sisters...he has no clue of what a blended family is otherwise of course he wouldn't say that.)

Baby Emma Update

Today was my monthly doctor's appointment and everything with Emma is going great. She is measuring right on time and her heartbeat sounded good today. I start going for check-ups now every 2 weeks...already?!! She must be growing good too...I gained 10 pounds in 4 weeks!!!! Doc didn't say anything to me about it but I'm thinking I better skip the Blue Bell tonight.

Happy Birthday Cari

Happy Birthday to my friend Cari. She's having a significant birthday today. I won't tell you how old she is but will tell you she is still younger than me!

I know Cari from church (of course) and she is one of the funniest people I know. I really enjoy being around her because she always makes me laugh. Hope you've had a good birthday Cari!

Eat, Swim, Sleep

That pretty much sums up the long weekend in Gladewater. We ate, swam, slept, ate, swam, slept...and watched fireworks from Mike's boat on Saturday night. The kids all had a great time swimming at Mike's house (I'm sure now you are catching on to why Kolton calls him "cool Uncle Mike"...pool, boat). We also had a fish fry one night and Robert swears my recent craving was for fried catfish....I guess I brought up the fish fry event one too many times :) It was good...what can I say?! I didn't do the amount of swimming that the kids did. I planted my preggo behind either on the deck or in the nice cool house! I have cute pictures of the kids I'll post later.

Kolton gave Robert and I a test run Saturday night before Emma's arrival. He got sick close to 1 am from being on the boat too long I guess. The only time I hate it when he is a diabetic is when he throws up! It stresses me out. Type 1 kiddos CANNOT keep throwing up like any other kid. We had to check is sugar at 2 am, 3 am, 5 am, 7 am...you get the idea. Luckily he only got sick the one time and by 3 am his sugar was back within his normal range. If Kolton ever does get a stomach virus, we'll be on the phone with the clinic every 2 hours (at least) and it's not uncommon for type 1 kiddos to end up in the hospital because of a bug. To give you an idea of what it does to his sugar...he was 241 before he got sick, 98 right after, 72 1 hour later. 70 is considered low so we had to wake Kolton up (you can imagine how hard hat was) and get him to drink Sprite and eat a Starburst wondering the whole time if he'd even keep it down. 3 am up over 100 which meant we got to sleep 2 straight hours before checking him again 5 am. See why I say it's like having a newborn?!!

4th of July

Happy (early) 4th of July!! (Here's a picture of Kolton and Mason watching fireworks in 2004 from the church parking lot.)

We are headed out to Gladewater later this afternoon for the long weekend. It'll probably be our last trip there before Emma is born. I know, she's due in Oct and this is only July....our weekends in August are full and after that I can't travel so this is it. From what I understand we are watching fireworks Sat. night from the comfort of Mike's boat :) and at some point having a fish fry :). Hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th!
