Kolton's Endo Appt

Everyone is back to being well at the Watson house!! And it wasn't the flu. The doctor Robert saw at CareNow said Dallas has seen no cases of the flu so it was just another virus. Yipee. It's a very good thing we are all over it. My sister and her son fly in tomorrow for the weekend and I'm sure she doesn't want to take anything extra back to Kansas!

Kolton had his regular 3 month check up yesterday with his endocrinologist. His A1C came down a whole point to 6.9% so rather than being on the high end of normal for a type 1 he is almost in the "normal" person range! I figured with him being back in school and eating on a more regular schedule that his number would come down from what it was over the summer. His thyroid is slightly enlarged so he has to have some blood work drawn for that and he gets to check his lipids already! I did learn he doesn't have to have his eyes checked every year and in a few more years we start watching his kidney functions. Did God make our bodies complex or what?!! The thyroid can be related to the diabetes so I'm no alarmed by that. At this point when it comes to Kolton, I'm not sure what would alarm me!!

My boss is sick and it's month end for us at work so I have a lot to do today to help her out....better get to it.

Robert's Turn...

....yep to be sick! He's feeling much better today but yesterday was ROUGH. He's back from what he calls his "near death experience"!! He was throwing up (gross I know) all day yesterday. I've never seen him so sick...not even the day after his bachelor party! I finally decided at 5:00 yesterday that he needed to go either to the ER or Carenow...I opted for Carenow. After checking in online and being at the clinic for 1 1/2 hours he left feeling better. He got a shot of phenergan and was able to finally sleep last night. I, on the other hand, didn't get much sleep unless 4 straight hours count which I guess it does with a 3 week old. Emma and I slept in the living room and I'm sure she can sense the house "ora" (lol) is all messed up. I hope tomorrow finds the house back to normal.

Today Kolton sees his endocrinologist for his usual 3 month diabetes check up. If I can get Emma to take a nap, I can nap before picking Kolton up at 1:30, Josh at 2, then dropping Josh and Emma off with my mom, then to Children's in Plano by 3:05 for the appointment, then by my office to drop off and pick up work, then back to get Josh and Emma and finally back home!! And I did mention I didn't get much sleep last night right?!!

My Turn....

...to be sick! Robert was nice and let me sleep all night Friday and took both Emma feedings. He then got up and got Josh to his 8:30 soccer game and played golf Saturday afternoon. By the time he got home though I was running fever, had a headache and my body hurt! I talked to the OB on call since I was told to call if I started running fever over 100.4...she decided it was probably "just the flu". Last night before I went to bed I found some Tamiflu we had from last year and it hadn't expired yet!!! I've had 2 doses and slept for basically 19 hours (now I know what it's like to be my dog) and am feeling better. The boys went to my parents house yesterday and Emma went over there this morning to spend the day so hopefully no one else in the house gets the flu.

No one in the family has been sick in what feels like forever until we have a 3 week old!!!!!

And Robert and I have to say happy birthday to our friend Brian....we missed his party today. :{

Kolton Update

Kolton was much better yesterday and went to school. Early this morning Josh woke Robert and I up and we thought he was going to be sick too but he slept in until 9 this morning and was fine!

Last night I got to see Gina (Forrest). She finally made it over to see baby Emma. We had a good visit and I plan on making a trip to Granbury once the Forrest compound is finished being built. I've never been to Granbury so maybe Robert and I will make a weekend of it..who knows.

Some days with a newborn I feel rested and other days not so much. Today is a not so much day. It's only 8:45 and I could go to bed already! Both the boys went to my parents house tonight so Robert and I have peace and quiet (minus the occasional cry from Emma).

Multi-Tasking

Today I took multi-tasking to a whole new level.

Kolton woke Robert and I up around 5:30 this morning with a stomach ache. 1 tums and a couple of sips of diet 7 Up and the throw up began...yea for us. By 9:00 I was calling the "emergency line" at the diabetes clinic which is standard with a type 1 who is throwing up and he had moderate to large ketones which meant he was getting dehydrated and had way too much extra sugar floating around in his body. I was on the phone with the nurse off and on all day giving insulin and re-checking ketones as instructed and trying to get Kolton to drink fluids..yea right. At noon the nurse gave me 2 more hours to get him hydrated and ketones gone before she sent us to the ER and those 2 additional hours is all Kolton needed in order to "turn the corner". I got him under control here and we didn't end up at Children's.

Robert wasn't able to stay home today to help with the kids so between feeding Emma, being nurse to Kolton and keeping Josh from being totally bored, I even got work done! I'm so tired tonight. I couldn't nap with Emma today because I was having to check something on Kolton so often...blood sugar...ketones...give insulin...give fluids...you get the idea!!

Having a child with type 1 diabetes is more challenging on some days than others. And with him we can never walk out the door empty handed. Where he goes, the meter goes, candy for lows, snacks for feeling low but not really low, insulin if we are going to be eating out......But I keep reminding myself it could be so much worse. Type 1 diabetes is nothing compared to some illnesses kids and parents face everyday.

Emma lost her cord today finally too. It was about time! She took her first "real" bath which she badly needed and loved it!

Josh was my helper today too. If Emma cried and I was with Kolton he'd go check on her and stick the paci in her mouth...so sweet!!

Emma Kate's Stats

Emma went back to the doctor today for her 2 week check up. She is doing very well and has gained an ounce per day since her 1 week visit. Last night she let me sleep! Robert fed her at 10:00 and she didn't eat again until 4:30!!! I wonder if she'll do that again tonight?? Anyway, here are her 2 week stats:

Weight: 7 pounds 2 ounces...11th percentile
Length: 20" long....28th percentile
Head: 34.3 cm...7th percentile

After her appointment I took her to my office to meet everyone. I'm officially back at work...yes already...sad isn't it. I decided when I started helping Josh play Spongebob on the Wii that it was time to start working again. I'm still working from home so going back to work isn't that big of a deal really. I still get to sleep in as long as Emma does and nap whenever I want to. It'll be a few more weeks yet before I leave Emma with anyone and be back at my office twice a week.

Eventful Sunday

Our church officially has a new pastor! We voted Lash in this morning and he will start November 9th...whoo hoo! I left Emma with my dad today so I could hear Lash preach at church and be there to vote. It took me FOREVER to get to my parents house this morning thanks to Tour de East Plano!!! ALL the traffic from Wylie/Murphy had to turn right on Los Rios and did I mention it went down to one lane? What a nightmare. I wasn't suppose to turn on my parents street but I did it anyway. I felt like one of those car commericals that says "professional driver on professional course" because of the orange cones...o and I got yelled out by some dude on a bike...whatever....find a sidewalk.

So after church...this is where the real fun begins. I pull into the garage and Josh comes out and opens my door for me..ahh how sweet. Well I was reading an email on my blackberry (thanks Helen) so I didn't notice when Josh locked the doors and so I got out and shut the door and guess who was still in the car...EMMA!!! I always leave my purse, keys, and phone in my car too and my spare key was in my purse that was locked inside the car. So Robert calls 911 and it took them forever to get to our house. Our neighbors had been outside and came over so as I was standing in the garage talking to them and wondering where the cops were, I remembered my valet key inside!!! I changed purses a few weeks ago so the key was still in the old purse!! So as the cop and ambulance pulled up I unlocked the car with the valet key. Go mom! I'm so glad I remembered that key because there were 2 things I was not looking forward to...how the cops were going to break into my Volvo and how much a new window would cost if they had to break it to get Emma out. I stayed calm the whole time because she was asleep and the car was in the garage vs sitting in the sun. Robert had to tell me before I remembered the valet key that my car keys don't belong in the car anymore. Tonight I went out to Albertson's and guess where my keys are...in my car. Guess I'm a slow learner.

Refreshed

I got 7 hours of sleep last night and felt so refreshed today but that's wearing off and I'm tired again! Robert took one of the feedings last night and Josh had a 8:30 soccer game this morning so Robert is TIRED. This morning I even heard him ask Josh if he wanted to skip the soccer game!!!

Robert's parents came to see Emma today for the first time. They had been traveling the East coast since the end of September and came by on their way home (even though we weren't really "on the way"). Emma had to meet her other set of spoiling grandparents!!

Today I got out of the house twice with no kids! The first time was for lunch at Olive Garden with ladies from church and our (possible) new pastor's wife. She is 2 years older than me and she was born on the island of Guam and I lived on the island of Guam...small island..small world! Our dads were obviously both in the Air Force and our time on Guam actually overlapped by a few months. The second outing was to go to the church to meet the (possible) new pastor Lash. He seemed fine. During the question and answer meeting a lot of his answers were typical textbook and his philosophies sound in line with that of former Pastor Mark. I did call Gina and let her know it's not too late for her and Mark to come back since we don't vote on Lash until tomorrow. I know Mark and Gina are in the right place, I just miss them. Robert and I have the privilege of calling them friends and not just a pastor and wife. I think Lash and his wife will both be very good for our church. I'm hoping to go to church tomorrow to hear Lash preach and be there to vote. My dad has asked me no less than 5 times if I'm going so that he can stay home and keep Emma. Of course it all depends on how she does tonight but if I made a noon lunch today surely I can make 11:00 church tomorrow.

ER

Can someone please tell me why I cry at every episode of ER?!!!

Eat, Sleep, Eat, Sleep

That sums up Emma's world right now. She's got herself on a good schedule eating every 3 hours during the day and then takes a 5 hour stretch followed by a 4 hour stretch at night. She loves the sound of running water and getting her hair washed and hates having the diaper changed. Her cord is close to falling off and I can't wait to give her a real bath!!

Robert went back to work this week and I'm surviving solo with the help of several cokes throughout the day!! You know you have a newborn when you wake up from a "nap" at 6:00 in the evening!!

Here's a few more pictures.

Birthday Wishes

Happy Birthday to my sister, Sonya! She's my only sibling and lives in Topeka, Kansas and has an adorable 3 year old son, Alex. She's an attorney with a firm in Topeka and our family is so proud of her. Ok, so the picture is a little cheesy but it's the one off the firm's website....

Emma is still doing well. She kept Robert up for a while last night...not crying...just not wanting to sleep. Let's hope tonight is different. Robert goes back to work tomorrow and as I imagined I'm not ready but he is!! He's got cabin fever. Emma had company yesterday. Robert's best friend Tony and his wife Donnessa brought their 18 month old daughter over yesterday to see Emma again. They live in Forney so we don't get to see them as much as we used to when they lived in Rockwall. Robert and Tony have known each other since they were babies in the church nursery...let's just say they've known each other a looooong time!!

My best friend Cindy got a baby boy last weekend too. (She's adopting through CPS again like Justine.) He was born on Kolton's birthday, the 4th, and the odds of this boy staying with Cindy and being adopted are pretty high. Now we have Josh and Justine, Emma and Ethan, who was born on Kolton's birthday....he has to be a keeper!!! I haven't even seen him yet except for pictures. Hopefully this week I'll feel like driving and I can go see him.

And finally, our church may have found our new pastor. Robert gets to meet him Tuesday, he preaches next Sunday and the church votes the following Sunday so stay tuned for the results!!!! I still miss Mark and Gina though.

Family Update

Emma is now almost 1 week old and is doing great. Still in the eat/sleep only stage which I know won't last much longer! She is adjusting to the Watson house easily and Robert and I are adjusting to being outnumbered. Lucky for us, Kolton is old enough to take care of himself for the most part..minus the diabetes management :)
Kolton is super excited about Emma and will be a huge help. Josh is getting used to having her around. He ignores her most the time but every so often he'll ask where she is or go looking for her to say hi. Today he fed her for the first time and I'll post those pictures once they get downloaded. Pebbles also ignores Emma for the most part too. Sometimes she'll come up to her for a sniff but so far her favorite part of Emma is the boppy pillow that she loves to curl up in. Lucky for her, she doesn't shed...otherwise anything of Emma's would be off limits. Robert has been off this week/working from home and I know I won't want him to go back to work on Monday. I am very thankful he's been home this week but I'll go ahead and wish for one more!!!

Emma already has nicknames too. I think I'm the only one who calls her Emma. Kolton calls her Emmie which Josh is picking up on too. My dad calls her peanut and Robert has been calling her M Kate or just Kate. I thought I'd call her Emma Kate but so far Emma does it for me.

Emma Kate Watson

The newest addition to the Watson family arrived Friday, October 3 at 3:25 pm and weighed in at 6 lbs 8 oz and was 18 1/4" inches long. Emma is doing great!! Kolton is sooo excited! He brought me flowers on Saturday and bought Emma a pair of shoes. Josh on the other hand, has held her once and is more excited about the fact that Robert is home this week. Emma has a full head of hair. I'll post a picture of that as soon as we download more pictures.

Emma's a Comin.....

Emma Kate will be here on Friday. I'm scheduled for a 7 am induction which means she should arrive around lunchtime!! Poor Kolton, his birthday is Saturday. Good thing we had his party early!!

My blood pressure was up at my appointment today which Robert thinks I did on purpose but I swear I did not drink a coke or monster drink before the appointment!! I did tell my doctor I'm so over being pregnant and she had no problem with scheduling the induction. I just love her.
